Frustrated Neymar Wants to Leave PSG
Neymar wants to leave Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), and already he’s eyeing a return to FC Barcelona.
According to reports, the 31-year-old Brazilian international – whom PSG acquired from Barca for €222 million in 2017 – has grown increasingly unhappy at the club. On Sunday, 6 August, he approached PSG president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, and informed him of his intentions to leave the club.
Despite having three more years left on his current contract, Neymar wants to leave before the summer transfer window ends so that he can rejoin the Spanish outfit.
His desire to leave comes just three months after enraged fans staged a protest outside his Paris home, whereby they demanded his removal from the club due to his recent poor run of form.
The backlash, combined with being overlooked by Al-Khelaifi and coach Luis Enrique in favour of younger players, is said to be the primary reason behind Neymar’s unhappiness at PSG.
Even if they wanted Neymar back, Barcelona are struggling to overcome their staggering debt crisis – which totalled €1.35 billion as of June 2023 – so it’s unlikely that they’ll be able to fork out the cash to buy him back at this time.
